Chapter VI – Ambush

An hour west of The Crags Of Wardonby…

CLIP CLOP CLIP CLOP is all that can be heard as The Blue Wizard Hemmingbyrd winds his way down through the Valley of Prare upon his trusty steed Sindin, heading home to Sthorn, and the safety of the Sthorn Light Castle.

When dark comes, he creates a fire, and begins to fashion a letter that he shall send ahead to King Elias.

My King,

I shan’t bore you with all the details of the meeting…

Suffice it to say, the Cyclops are requesting that they be allowed to extend their boundaries beyond the borders of The Crags Of Wardonby.

This would mean that they would be allowed within the borders of 20 some odd cities, town and villages, directly on the outskirts of their land.

Something that would have never been allowed 200 plus years ago.

But, 200 years have passed since the ‘Treaties Of Du Mon Reale’, with barely a rule, or law broken.

And thus time would dictate that they have in fact earned this request.

Sadly, once a few of their witless rogue hunters swallow a few villagers whole, those hard earned ‘rights’ will be snatched right back from them, should the council approve their request.

None the less, this new request must be seriously considered…

And is likely to pass.

I, in behalf of you, and the Kingdom of Sthorn, have given it my vote of approval… Along with the likes of the Northern Elves, The Warrior’s of Lamelon, and even the Ice Giants, and their King, Ra Su Beon.

Either way, we the Council must seek out the approval of The Giant’s of Fire, which I told the Council The Kingdom of Sthorn would do… I hope that, that was alright, I’m sure that it is.

This in itself will be a bit challenging…

As the Giants of Fire have requested for some 50 plus years to extend the borders of their firey mountain regions, to no avail.

However, where they do inhabit, none other can, due to the sheer heat and smoke filled air that follows them.

And thus, they are not merely asking for more land to travel to, but rather they are asking that the extended lands, in fact, be theirs hence forth.

Though they say it is no fault of their own that the land changes form upon their arrival.

Be that as it may, the extending of their lands, would in fact mean taking land from other sorts of people, or humanoids.

None the less, they are still likely to be difficult to convince in regards to extending the borders of the Cyclops.

I Hope This Letter Finds You Well My Lord,

Your Humble Servant,

The Blue Wizard Hemmingbyrd-

With the completion of the letter, Hemmingbyrd rolls up the parchment, and seals it with his signet ring.

He then stands, and begins to speak some magical words.

And with a flash, and flare of white fire, a white eagle like bird, some three foot in height, appears upon his right arm.

“Hello Monto Gue” he speaks to the bird, as he scratches it under its neck.

Suddenly Hemmingbyrd’s lavender eyes darken, and his camp fire turns from orange, to blood red, casting a horrific glow around his campsite.

Just then a young, dark haired woman, dressed in skin tight, all black, Sorceress’s attire, steps into the light.

She is truly beautiful, and yet bears unusual eyes, one black colored, the other yellow, and glowing.

“Ravum…” states Hemmingbyrd, his eyes still dark.

“It’s been too long… Blue Wizard” she speaks as she slowly starts to circle Hemmingbyrd.

“Why have you come here… Why are you not sleeping” speaks Hemmingbyrd.

Meanwhile his unusual white bird, Monto Gue seems a bit uneasy… And makes almost inaudible chirps, sensing his master’s tension.

“Lets just say… A dear friend has awoken me” she replies in almost a hiss.

“Your charms won’t work on me woman” speaks Hemmingbyrd, responding to the tone in her voice.

“Maybe not” she replies.

Suddenly Hemmingbyrd’s face looks of someone whose ‘mind’s light’ has just come on.

“Eldon the Black” he says speaking very lowly.

“Very good Wizard… You have not lost your touch” she says as she comes to a stand still across the fire from him.

“Nor shall I” Hemmingbyrd replies, and just as he does he feels a sudden sharp pain in his side…

That of an assassin’s dagger, and just as he does he reaches behind him grabbing the hand of the assassin…

His eyes glowing a dark purple “I KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING!” he says to the darkly hooded assassin.

“SYM LEE!” he then speaks, creating a blow back spell in a great burst of green light, blowing the assassin some 40 feet back, causing the dagger to come out and fall to the ground.

Hemmingbyrd then falls to one knee, head down, holding his side… And his white bird Monto Gue flies off in a souring light of white.

Ravum, who has enveloped herself in the red fire in order to avoid the effects of the blow back spell, notes the birds departure.

“KILL THE BIRD!” she yells, and the dazed assassin, draws an arrow from his back, and lets loose a shot… To no avail.

“Until we meet again… Old friend” speaks Ravum, who steps back into the darkness, and the fire turns normal again.

Hemminbyrd, bleary eyed from whatever was on the end of the dagger, watches as the assassin also disappears into the shadows.

  1. Hi DJ! Sorry I haven’t been around for a while, I’ve been getting myself back together and have been busy being careful since ‘the incident’, ha ha. I hope you had a lovely Christmas and New Year. Looking forward to seeing what the New Year brings for you- by the looks of this story, it’s going to be pretty fecking awesome. 🙂

Christmas was good, New Year was good

Really Anna, I’m so glad you’re ok… Back 10+ years ago I spent 10 days in a hospital, and it was a pretty scary thing

Fortunately my health improved over a hand full of months, and has been pretty good since.

And now I’m just going to hug you, Lol xxxooo

      Welcome back
