MADY’S HOME

3AM AFTER THE BALL

Mady is asleep in her bedroom when…

RING! RING!

The phone suddenly rings and she is awoken from a deep sleep full of rhinoceros’s, and late night conversations with her father.

Wiping the slumber from her eyes, she picks up the phone.

“Hello?”

“Yes…” it was the police, why were they calling me.

“My earrings? You say you have my earrings?” Mady says in confusion.

“WHAT!” Mady suddenly yells, jumping out of bed, wearing satin red pajamas.

“WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU CAN’T RELEASE HIM UNTIL THE MORNING! HE’S DONE NOTHING WRONG!” she insists.

Thirty minutes later, at the New York City Police Department, Mady stands in a long black rain coat, and heals.

Under the coat can be seen hints of red satin pajamas.

Officers try not to stare at her, but even in the middle of the night, without any makeup on, wearing pajamas…

She’s still just stunning.

Suddenly a policeman brings out the saxophonist, Barry North, who she had given her earrings to earlier that evening.

To her surprise, he has a black eye, and looks to have taken a slight beating.

Without thinking Mady reaches out and touches Barry’s face.

“Did they do this to you?” Mady says in saddened dismay.

“It’s alright Miss Monroe, lets just go,” Barry says, as he makes his way towards the exit.

Mady nods in agreement, but casts some pretty dark glares at the officers on duty.

When they get outside the driver Elden opens the back door of Mady’s black car.

“Thank you so much Miss Monroe, I really do appreciate it…” Barry exclaims whilst reaching out to shake her hand.

“Here,” she starts to go into her purse for some cash, “…for your new sax.”

“Uh… No mam… That’s alright… I have another horn I save for actual gigs,” with this he hands her back her diamond earrings as well.

“I don’t need your money mam.”

Mady stops searching for cash, and takes back the earrings.

She just stares at him for a moment.

“Barry North you say?”

“Yeah… That’s me,” he replies.

“But you can just call me ‘Billy Jet’, that’s my show name.”

“Well, Billy Jet… Do you have somewhere to sleep tonight? It’s still raining pretty hard.”

“Oh, I’ll be alright… It’s just water, right?” he replies.

Billy starts to walk away, tucking his horn underneath hi coat, and putting on his black hobo hat.

“Billy…” Mady suddenly says.

He turns back and looks her way.

“Please… Come stay at my home for the night… I just won’t feel right if you don’t let me do anything at all after I got you beat up like that.”

Billy just stands there looking at her for a moment, looks back in the direction he was walking, then back at her once more.

He then runs back and gets into the back of her car with a smile, followed by Mady who is also smiling.
