CHAPTER XVI – Forks In The Road

“This is becoming difficult for me,” spoke Laris after she healed her wounds.

“Yeah, that was quite a blow,” replied Stryke.

“No… I don’t mean the wounds… I mean the justification of why I’m here…” replied Laris.

I (Ren) went quiet.

“Why are you here Laris?” questioned Thalo.

“Because  I care about all of you,” she replied.

“We’re to treasure hunt, while at the same time do away with some bad guys, right?” questioned Kinner.

Stryke put her hand on his shoulder and nodded.

“It would be different if they were threatening a town… Or causing havoc… But it seems to me, they’re just living under here,” spoke Laris.

“I think you should go back,” I replied.

Laris seemed a bit stunned.

“You’re right, this is no place for a Paladin,” I continued.

“No… It’s alright… I’ll go a bit further,” she quickly replied, then stepped out into the Eastern Hallway.

Chi looked at me, and my eyes went across the rest of the group.

“A bit further for now,” I spoke, and all nodded.

We went out into the Eastern Hallway, Z back in the lead, followed by Thalo, Kinner, Chi, myself, Stryke then Laris.

We came upon a Hallway that turned south…

Our options were to take it, or continue East.

Z had no opinion.

Chi checked for tracks, “A lot of Hobgoblin, Goblin etc. tracks going East.”

“Lets continue East,” I replied…

…and so we moved on.

30′ East, we came upon a doorway in the North Wall.

Z listened at the door, then turned back towards us, “Hobgoblins.”

I nodded, and motioned to keep going East.

We started moving, when Laris stopped the group.

“I think I hear something coming from that Southern Hallway we passed,” she spoke.

Are options were to go back and face it, or continue 30′ forward where there was a door.

I motioned forward, but had Chi go to the back of the group, arrow drawn, walking backwards.

Z went to the door and listened, but heard nothing.

We went into what appeared to be a Dining Hall…

…50′ North to South by 40′ West to East.

In addition to the door we came in, there was an Eastern door.

We went in, and closed the door behind us.

Chi listed at the door we came through for several minutes, but heard nothing.

“They might have gone towards our last room, or back south where they came from,” he spoke.

I nodded, we then listened to the Eastern Door.

We open the door, and continue East for 20′, then run into a Hallway going North  10′ to a Door, and South 20′ to another Door.

Z listens to the Northern Door…

…no sound.

He then listens to the Southern Door…

Our third option is the way we were heading, which goes 10′, then cuts diagonally South East, in a more cave looking Hallway.

“Lets continue East,” speaks Z.

I nod, and we continue East.

The cave like Hallway goes 30′, then becomes a Southern Hallway going 40′, then turning West…

Or another Cave like Hallway heading East 20′.

“Which way?” questions Z.

“I’m not sure,” I speak.

“Coin toss then… Heads, East, Tails, South,” he says.

All seem to agree, mainly because they’re just not sure.

He flips a Silver Coin, then looks up at me, “East then…”

We continue East and reach the Cave like Hallway going North East…

…It’s much narrower than the regular hallways.

“Flip it,” I speak.

Z flips his coin again, “North it is…”

We continue up the North East, narrow hallway for what feels to be 100′.

It goes North East for 30′, then North for 30′, then North East for 40′ or so.

We come across a second hallway heading East.

He flips again, “East then.”

We head East 20′ to a large cave, 60′ North to South, and 30′ West to East…

…and in the center of it, on top of several medium sized rocks, were 6 Chests and a large black sack.

“Good lord,” spoke Kinner.

Suddenly Laris heard a noise from behind her, and turned to see entering the chamber behind them was what looked to be a Golden Knight (Helmed Horror), with glowing red light coming out where its face, and hands would be, floating above the ground.
