CHAPTER XXXX – The Wizard And The Dragon

After my Wizard Ren got left down in the Dragon Lair, our group took a short break.

“This is crazy man,” spoke Barry grabbing some chips from the green bowl in the middle of the coffee table.

Meanwhile Lisa and Stacy brought us all in some more drinks.

“Alright guys, here we go,” spoke Johnny.

“Might I ask why you wanted me down here,” Ren questioned the dragon.

“CLANCULUM VERMI…” it replied.

“This is your name…” Ren replied.

“My name is Ren…”

“You’ve Entered My Lair… Come For My Treasure…” begins Claculum.

“No… We weren’t here for your treasure…” replied Ren.

“DO NOT LIE TO ME TIEFLING!” yells the dragon.

Outside the cavern, all but Dreyha, Faren and Zahn have begun making their way away from the dragon’s cave.

“Faren, Zahn, join the rest of them… I’ll get Ren,” speaks Dreyha.

“But–” starts Faren, but Dreyha stops him.

“–Just trust me…” she speaks, and Zahn and Faren leave.

“I’m not sure what you want from me,” replies Ren.

Come Down Here,” speaks Claculum.

“I”m not sure that’s a good idea,” replies Ren.

Suddenly Dreyha grabs Ren’s wrist from behind him.

She then transforms into the Tiger sized Black Panther form Zahn had seen her in when they first met.

She gestures her head, indicating to get on, and Ren jumps on her back…

…they race back up the stairs.

“NO!” yells Calculum Vermi.

The dragon lifts into the air, and flies into the stair cavern, crawling through it after the panther, but the panther is faster.

When Dreyha and Ren reach the exit of the cavern she then turns into a Great Eagle once more, and they tear into the sky.

By the time the dragon comes out, and goes into the air, he can’t seem to catch up to the Great Eagle, and so finally gives up, and returns to its’ lair.

Ren leans over to where ears might be on the Great Eagle, “I don’t know how to thank you…”

CHAPTER XXXIX – Clanculum Vermi

Chi lead the way into the cave.

Behind him Kinner, who as a Drow, is very used to the dark.

Then Tor-Atimus, Zahn and Ren.

All of them have Darkvision, save Zahn…

So the further from the entrance, the less he could see.

“I’m going to need to light a torch,” he spoke.

Tor-Atimus nods, and Zahn lights a torch.

He’s now able to see 30′ ahead, and the rest of them can see 60′.

Though with the twists and turns of the cavern, no one can see beyond 30′

Soon they reach a larger cavern, and at the end of it is a 20′ wide rock-ish stairway going down.

They head towards it…

“Are You Sure That’s Wise…” speaks a deep whispery voice in Draconic (Dragon) from down the stairs.

Ren and Tor-Atimus, who speak Draconic stop the group.

“It’s the Dragon…” speaks Ren.

“What did he say?” questions Zahn.

“He said, “Are you sure that’s wise…” speaks Tor-Atimus.

“He’s asking if we think it’s wise to go down the stairs,” explains Ren.

“Perhaps we should turn back,” responds Kinner.

“Alright,” replies Zahn, and the Party turns around.

“Leave The Mage…” speaks the Dragon in Draconic once more.

Zahn looks at Tor-Atimus, who looks distraught.

“He says to leave the Mage…” speaks Ren.

“What… I’m not leaving you down here!” replies Zahn

All the Party looks stunned, and terrified.

“I don’t think we have a choice,” replies Ren.

Chi looks at Zahn and nods, as if agreeing.

“Just… Go… Get the Party as far away as you can… I’ll do my best to survive this,” finishes Ren as he walks by the rest of the group and begins his way down the rough rock-ish stairs.

Zahn moves towards Ren as if to follow, tears and anguish in his eyes…

…but Tor-Atimus grabs onto him, and pushes him the other direction.

Meanwhile Ren makes his way down the 100′ feet stair cavern…

“Very Wise…” speaks the Dragon once more in Draconic.

Meanwhile Zahn, and the rest of the Party briskly make there way towards the caverns exit.

Ren then enters a large room well lit with torches, with a drop down into the middle some 40′ down.

When he looks down he sees piles of silver and gold coins with a chest in the middle of them.

“Where are you Dragon!” Ren speaks in Draconic his heart racing.

Suddenly from the ceiling drops an 18′ long Red Dragon, who rests itself upon its’ treasure.

“I Am Here…” it replies.

Outside the Party dashes out of the cavern, and Dreyha, Zaren and Stigus stand ready to attack.

“We’re leaving!” proclaims Tor-Atimus.

“Grab your horses,” he continues.

Meanwhile Zahn staggers and faces the cavern opening.

“WHERE’S REN!” speaks Faren loudly.

Chi just shakes his head at Faren, then starts pulling his horse away.

CHAPTER XXXVII – Session 7

It had been two weeks since our last Session.

I must admit, I hadn’t thought of D & D (Dungeons & Dragons) for the first 11 days…

Caught up in school work etc.

But the last three days thoughts of entering the Thaen Mountains began to rise within me.

When I arrived at Johnny’s, his sister Stacy had made us some sort of casserole, that smelled very good.

She sat it in the middle of  the coffee table atop a couple oven mitts…

And sat out 7 plates, 7 forks and a serving utensil.

Barry arrive next, then Mike.

Trevor, as usual, was already there.

I do believe he had slept over the night before.

Last to arrive was Lisa, but she was on time none the less.

We ate, and talked about our last couple weeks to one another, until…

“It’s time,” spoke Johnny, who, once again, fastened on his blue Dungeon Master cape.

“Let us begin…”

As the Party made their way up the rough incline of the Eastern Peaks of Thaen, they had to dismount, and pull their horses by their reigns.

The weather became colder and colder as the day went on, and when night came, they set up camp.

Kinner collected wood, and Faren lit the fire.

Faren then began cooking the food for the group, as Ren kneeled down near him.

“The temperatures dropped quite a bit,” spoke Ren.

Faren glanced at him, then back to the food.

Ren, realizing Faren is a Barbarian, and hadn’t noticed, makes his way to Kinner.

“Getting chilly,” he speaks.

Kinner looks at him, “Yeah… Might snow as we get further in.”

The Party eats, and those who aren’t on watch get some rest.

The next morning they continue upward, and further east…

…as they go down the other side, and make their way further into the mountains of Thaen, the rock around them begins to look more and more black, like slate.

“Stigus,” spoke Zahn.

Stigus came to Zahn’s side.

“What do you make of this rock,” questioned Zahn.

“I’ve seen it around Dragon Lairs…” she responded.

“Dragon Lairs…” he responds.

She nodded in reply.

Just as the Party was about to make camp for the night, they came across a fairly large cave against one part of the mountain.

Stigus approached Zahn, “I’m not sure we should make camp here…”

Tor-Atimus approaches as well, “What is it?”

Suddenly a shadow of wings passes over them…

…Zahn jumps, then realizes it’s Dreyha and Chi.

In Giant Eagle form Dreyha lands, and Chi dismounts.

All are glad to see both Chi and Dreyha.

Dreyha approaches Zahn, “You’re not going to set camp her are you?”

Meanwhile Chi moves closer to the cave entrance.

“I’m pretty sure this might be some kind of a Lair,” he speaks.

LUNIC MOUNTAINS

REALM OF MAGIC

Tyrion, Ahnug, Kon and his two Maelem Archers follow the three Sorcerer’s on horseback further up The Realm of Magic Pass.

Rarely has a common Mortal stepped upon these sacred peaks.

“So these three Sorcerers are Wizards of Paren?” Kon questions Tyrion.

“They’d better be…” Ahnug interjects.

“I’m afraid I know as much as you do Kon… I only hope they can take us to the Heirs of Warnlock, or I fear the worst… For we have no means of battling a Dragon…”.

At last they reach what looks to be some sort of Temple made of Solid Black Stone.

The Three Sorcerers dismount, and stand off to the right of what appears to be a stairway entrance, leading downward.

With this, the three sorcerers pull down their hoods revealing the black haired leader, another male, this one white haired, and a third female, whose hair almost appears to be a burgundy red.

Their eyes are no longer glowing white, which seems to put Kon at ease a bit.

“Lets do this” Ahnug starts to step forward, but Tyrion places his arm across his chest, stopping him.

“No… I go alone” Tyrion then steps forward, and makes his way down the stairs.

The stairs seem to go down about three floors before he reaches what appears to be some sort of room of prayer.

Floating in the air, sitting Indian style, eyes closed, is an older looking, white haired Mage… Adon.

Without opening his eyes, Adon speaks “You bare the Crystal of Orph…”.

With this Tyrion reaches in his shirt, and pulls out the blue crystal “Orph?”.

Adon opens his eyes, which appear to be an unearthly blue green… He then comes out of his levitative state, and stands.

“Indeed…” Adon replies, as he pours himself some sort of dark liquid, and brings Tyrion a cup of water.

“Drink…” he says as he hands the cup to Tyrion.

Tyrion drinks “Thank you” and hands him back the cup.

Suddenly the cup refills with water by itself “You need more than that, you’ve had a long journey”.

Tyrion startled, complies, and drinks.

“You can not defeat Tor’Hum…” Adon says as he returns to his levitative state.

Tyrion is surprised to hear him say this “That is why we’ve come to you? Can you not help us?”.

“No… I can not” Adon bluntly replies.

Tyrion is speechless. “Well, I can not merely sit back and watch this Dragon destroy all that King Maelem and I have achieved… Never has there been a peace like this… And I–” Tyrion is interrupted before he can finish.

“You are arrogant! Boy…”. “Never been a peace like thisI’ve known times on this Realm of such serenity that you could never hope to know… No, you, and your kind, are not capable of such a thing as “True Peace” and “Harmony” Adon snaps at him..

“Your Race has a Restless Spirit… Unquenchable… Never satisfied… No… You have no idea of the extent of Loss this Realm has experienced at the hands of… Mortals”.

“Are you not an Heir of Warnlock?? Was it not your kind that slayed the many Heirs of Shadowmyth at Ardent’s Stowe…” Tyrion demanded.

“With this Adon opened his eyes… “We are done here… Show yourself out… Knight”.

CHAPTER X (Part One) – The Realm of Magic

Tyrion, Ahnug, Kon and Kon’s two Maelem Archers, had traveled now for two and one half days, making their way to the Lunic Mountains… And the supposed home to the Heirs of Wornlock…

Renowned as a Historical Region of Magic, thh common man rarely traveled there.

In fact, it had been so many years since anyone had spoken about such things as Dragons, and Magic, that magic had joined the bedside of “Myth”, where Dragons Lore also had resided.  Until now…

Several hundreds of years had passed without neither hide nor hair of Dragons, Wizards or Sorcerers, and thus, purely mortals have reigned, and battled for the Lands of the Realms.

A time of both War, and Peace, within a single race.

As Kon harassed his two archers, his way of keeping them sharp, Tyrion road up alongside Ahnug.

“Ahnug…” Tyrion spoke.

“Aye my lord…” he replied.

“I want you to be watchful of my actions this next moon cycle, as I am in mourning, and suspect my being distraught may, or may not, hinder my better judgements…”

“Aye Tyrion… Consider yourself under my eye…” with this Ahnug smiled at Tyrion, who in turn smiled back.

“To be honest with you, I’m more concerned with that…” with this Ahnug pointed to the mountains ahead which now had an unsettling, black, swirling assemblage of clouds enveloping them.

“Tyrion winched at the site, as Kon then approached.

“What do you suppose that’s about…” Kon inquired about the clouds that Ahnug had pointed at.

Tyrion, uncomfortable with making “guesses” as it were, abut subjects he knew nothing about, instead changed the conversation.

“How are your men, Kon?”

Kon noting this, did not press the issue.

“Frightened…” he replied.

“As they should be…” interjected Ahnug. “What with Dragons flying around, eh” with this he half smiled at Tyrion.

“Well, as my wits are slowly returning, the idea of only five of us heading out into this “New World of Darkness” that seems to be rearing it’s ugly head of late…” Tyrion looks over at Kon “…seems not the best of ideas”.

“Mmm” Kon replys. ” I think it’s better that you sent Ingum and the rest on to Tananhall…” Kon continued.

“Do you now?” Tyrion more cheerfully replies. “And why, may I ask, is that…”.

“The way I see it my lord, Tananhall is the less “Fool Hearty” of the two chosen paths…”.

“Ah Ha!!” with this the three of them laugh, and continue towards the Lunic Mountains, and it’s now Darkened Skies.

THIS IS THE END OF CHAPTER X (Part One)
