CHAPTER XXIX – Dreyha

During the Second Watch, as Chi and Ren discuss magic, religion and life, Zahn’s eyes suddenly open from a dead sleep…

…he stands to Chi and Ren’s surprise.

“What is it boss?” questions Ren with a slight smile.

“Don’t follow me,” Zahn replies, then disappears into the night.

Chi and Ren look baffled…

…”I’d better wake Tor-Atimus,” concludes Ren.

Meanwhile Zahn walks into the night for some 100 feet or so until he comes across a large tree.

Being Human, he doesn’t have the ability to see in the dark (Darkvision) more than the partial moon and stars allow…

…which isn’t much.

“Whose there,” he speaks in the direction of the tree.

Suddenly an exceptionally large black panther leaps down from one of its’ great branches.

Glowing yellow eyes it circles him slowly.

Zahn closes his eyes, and sits on the ground Indian style.

“A man of faith,” comes a soothing female voice from in front of him.

With this Zahn opens his eyes, and before him, also sitting Indian style, is a black haired, yellow eyed Wood Elf girl…

…her attire is colored in greens and browns.

“Who are you?” Zahn spoke.

“I am Dreyha… Of the Green Tower…” she spoke.

“Jarothh sent you?” questioned Zahn.

“Yes…” she replied.

“I want to show you something,” she spoke, then turned back into a black panther…

…her yellow eyes gazed back at Zahn, beckoning him to get onto her back…

…and so he did.

She ran back the way his Party had come some 400 yards south of his camp, until they came upon 6 Barbarian Archers at a campfire of their own.

Zahn got off her back and she became a Wood Elf again.

Zahn kneeled behind a bush, “Those are Barbarians from Drudgek.”

She nodded.

She then transformeed back into the panther and took him back to the tree.

“I will be around…” she spoke, then disappeared into the night.

Zahn returned to his camp where Tor-Atimus, Chi and Ren waited for him.

Zahn walked right by them, and stood before Faren’s sleeping form.

Faren woke immediately and rose in a flash, great axe drawn.

“We need to talk,” spoke Zahn.

CHAPTER XXVII – A Question Of Beliefs

As the Party sat down to dine at Jarothh’s elaborate table, filled with all the foods one would want, though the majority was nuts and plants.

They took note that the table itself appeared to be a large, dead oak laying on its’s side.

It was a huge tree, but somehow Jarothh got it inside the tower.

Candles also filled the tabletop, creating a warm glow…

…and large assortments of flowers were the decor.

Jatothh himself sat at the end of the table, but was not eating, though he fed a bird on his shoulder.

“A little bird told me that the incident with the Black Rock Orcs was not your fault…” spoke Jarothh suddenly, as the Party began to eat.

The Party could not guess whether he was serious about a bird telling him, or if it was a bit of Druid humor.

“It’s true… They kidnapped our Ranger Chi, and were taking him back to their tribes dwelling… I believe it was in an attempt to lure me there,” spoke Tor-Atimus.

“Perhaps… So there is nothing to discuss about this,” continued Jarothh.

“Well, we were just concerned that because they retrieved me from the Black Stone Orcs, and wounded some of them, there might be some repercussions…” interjected Chi.

Jarothh gazed at Chi, “There is much fear in you…” he then gazed at the Drudgek Barbarian Faren, “You even fear one of your Party members.”

Chi followed Jarothh’s gaze towards Faren.

“The Black Rock reaped what they sewed, I will say no more of this…” proclaimed Jarothh who now cast his gaze on Zahn.

“As for your mission,” Jarothh spoke.

“You called my God, Apollo, a fool… Why?” spoke Zahn.

“The Druids do not follow Zeus, nor his Gods… The Earth is its’ own,” he spoke.

“Coercing men to follow a God, there is no need for this.” he concluded.

“The complexities of men and the like run deep… Though they are capable of great joy, they also battle with a deep sadness… Sometimes a little ‘light’ can sustain them to venture on,” explained Zahn.

“You think there is no light from the Earth… It gives you its’ trees, its’s beds of water… It’s warm winds… And what about the sun that gazes down upon us from our blue sky… The Gods are not needed to sustain us, we have all that we need right here,” he explains.

“Men and ‘the like’ find themselves in need for more than our land can offer, from time to time… Our minds are very demanding,” interjects Ren with a smile.

Jarothh gazes as Ren, “You study magic like it’s some toy to play with… You long for power, though you do not truly need it… Do not lecture me on the complexities of the mind,” speaks Jarothh, who now seems a bit bothered.

“Wait just a min–” starts Ren who stands and places one of his fists against the table, but is cut off…

“–Hold now… It is not our intention to anger, or disrespect one such as yourself,” speaks Zahn, who then gazes towards Ren.

Ren, gathering his senses nods, “My apologies Jarothh,” he then sits.

Jarothh gazes around the room at Zahn’s Party, “For a group newly formed, I sense a certain bond between you…”

Zahn nods in acknowledgement.

“You will leave in the morning,” spoke Jarothh, who then stood, transformed into a raven once more, and flew out the window.

All let out a sigh.

“Well… That was intense,” speaks Kinner who begins to eat once more.

“And educational,” adds Zahn.

“If life is so perfect for him, why did he anger so quickly,” interjected Stigus.

“I do not think life is perfect for any of us… In his core, there is heat, like the earth we sit upon,” speaks Tor-Atimus.

“What kind of fool am I to ‘combat’ him in his own home,” speaks Ren, who then swigs down some more wine.

“You question, not accept, all things Ren… It is a attribute… And aren’t we all a bit foolish from time to time,” with this all laugh, finish their meals, and sleep for the night.

CHAPTER XXV – The Druid Jarothh

The Party road all day, and through the night, putting a large distance between them and the Black Rock Orcs.

They finally stopped to get water, and take a short rest.

Chi looks at Zahn, “What you’re trying to do here in Galdur, doesn’t look to be an easy thing…”

Zahn took a beat, then replied, “I know… And I want all of you to know, should you decide to part ways from my Group, you will be paid for the whole week.”

“I think I can speak for all of us when I say, we’re not worried about getting paid, we’re worried for our lives,” Chi replies.

“Then leave… This is our path,” speaks Tor-Atimus confidently, gesturing towards Zahn.

“I forsee great things for you Zahn… I for one won’t be ‘departing’,” interjects Ren with a smile.

“My only wondering is if I’m over my head here… I’m but a Hunter from Krieg,” speaks Stigus.

“These are the type of stories I sing about… I’m convinced I’m meant to be here, to share them with the land,” speaks Kinner excitedly as he tunes his fiddle.

“Either way… We should consult the High Druid Jarothh, of the Green Tower, about the Black Rock Orcs…” interjects Chi.

“He will not help us… He sits up high in his tower, pondering the land, and his kind… Not the doings of some random Adventurers…” proclaims Faren.

Chi gets in Faren’s face, “And why should we trust you Barbarian… We don’t even know why you’re here.”

Faren does not back down, and postures to Rage…

…”Hold now,” speaks Zahn who steps between them, backing each back.

“I’m afraid Chi’s right Faren… We have no idea of your intentions, only that you say Noria does not intend to hurt us,” Zahn continues.

Faren looks frustrated, longing to disclose the truth, instead he goes to his horse.

“Where is this Druid you speak of Chi?” questions Zahn.

“A days ride, along our path towards Thaen,” Chi replies.

Zahn looks at the group, they all seem ok with it.

“To the Green Tower then…” proclaims Zahn, and they all mount, and ride on.

OUT OF GAME

The doorbell rings.

“PIZZA!” the Players all yell.

Johnny goes to the door and pays the man, then brings three large pizzas into the room.

“This is getting good,” I say.

“I’m just glad I’m back in play,” replies Trevor.

“I wonder what this Druid is going to be like,” wonders Barry.

“I feel kind of lame, and useless so far,” Stacy says.

“Trust me, you’ll feel your use in battle,” replies Trevor as he takes a bite of pizza.

“Well, we battled, and you guys had it under control,” replies Stacy.

“You can always ‘Duel Class’ if you’re not satisfied as a Warrior,” speaks Johnny.

“Hmm… Maybe,” replies Stacy.

“Alright, lets get back to it!” announces Johnny.
