CHAPTER XV – Session 12

Session 12 had arrived…

It was hard to believe that we’d all been playing Dungeons & Dragons together for 3 months.

I think Johnny’s sister Stacy was the most surprised of them all.

Though she didn’t really seem to ever click with her original Character Stigus, the Dragonborn Fighter, since she started her new Character Laris, the Paladin of the Ancients, aka Green Knight, she really seems to be getting into it.

We all arrived a little earlier for this Session, we were having a Bar B Q, and it was fun to just hang out a bit.

As time got closer to our starting time, everyone got out there notebooks, Characters, Pencils, Pens and Dice, and we were ready to go.

“Alright, so the last time we played, you guys had taken out 3 Hobgoblins in a room, and tied up a fourth, and put it behind a large chair with the bodies,” Johnny began.

“Thalo, while guarding the Eastern door, heard a noise from the outside hallway. Lets start there…” he finished.

We quickly moved into strategic positions, Z on the left of the door, he’s to strike first, as he’s a Rogue, followed by Thalo, our Shadowy Monk, who was on the right side of the door, then Chi would let loose some arrows from across the room.

Stryke and Laris were behind Z, and Kinner and I (Ren) were by Chi in order to do Ranged Attacks.

When the door opens, the Patrol doesn’t expect what’s about to hit them…

Z literally guts the two Hobgoblins in front, then continues his vicious attack by lashing away at an Ogre’s stomach.

Then comes Thalo with a whack to the Ogre’s head with his Quarter Staff, and a kick to its gut.

Then Chi releases his bow, and strikes the Ogre in the neck.

And I release a Fire Bolt, “IGNIS PRESSLUM,” striking it’s face.

The Ogre begins to sway…

Stryke lunges forward striking the Ogre in its’ belly.

And Thalo takes another whack at its’ head , and breaks his neck with a firm kick…

…it falls to the floor.

Kinner holds up his hand cross bow and aims it at one of the Hobgoblins…

…takes a shot, but misses.

I cast a mote of fire once more, “IGNIS PRESSULUM,” but the Hobgolin deflected it off its’ shield.

Chi takes another shot, but his bow string snaps.

Laris moves in, but the Hobgoblin blocks her blow as well…

…Stryke moves forward, and gets a slash of her Battle Axe past one of the Hobgoblins shield.

After the Hobgoblin blocks Laris’s sword, it in turn sticks his Long Sword in her stomach.

The second Hobgoblin still living loses grip of its’ sword, turns, and tries to run away…

…leaving his back open to Z, who sticks him in the back with one of his Rapiers, killing it.

He then sticks his other Rapier in the remaining Hobgoblin’s side.

Thalo then delivers a final blow to its’ neck, killing it.

Laris, whose badly injured, places her hands upon her wound, and “PONERE MANIBUS,” and both of her hands glow brightly green, completely healing it.

“Wow,” exclaims Stryke,” That was a serious wound…”

CHAPTER IV – Level 4

After our battle against the Ettin and Goblins, several of our Players Characters had leveled up, so Johnny brought the game to a halt.

“Ok so with that battle, four of your characters leveled up (Level 4)…” he spoke.

“I leveled up,” spoke Trevor, “My Ranger Chi is now Level 4, and has a Maximum Hit Points of 37… He also earned two ABILITY POINTS, which I applied to his CONSTITUTION score, and his DEXTERITY score.”

“My Wizard Ren also leveled, his Maximum Hit Points is now 26, I also raised his CONSTITUTION and DEXTERITY Abilities, which raised his Hit Points, and Armor Class… I need to pick a few more Spells for his Spell Book, as I didn’t get to it last level either,” I (Connor) explained.

“My Paladin Laris also leveled… Her Maximum Hit Points are now 35, and instead of raising her ABILITY POINTS, I took the FEAT ‘HEALER’, which allows her to do some healing with MEDICAL KITS, as opposed to just stabilizing the wounded,” Stacy spoke.

“My Monk Thalo also leveled… His Maximum Hit Points is now 36, and he received another KI POINT… Also, instead of increasing my ABILITY POINTS, I took the FEAT ‘ALERT’, which adds +5 to my INITIATIVE Roll, and he can no longer be SURPRISED,” spoke Mike.

“Alright, that’s it for now, lets continue,” spoke Johnny.

After the battle the next thing we needed to do was listen to the door, and pull the bodies into the hallway…

After we moved the bodies, Z listened at the door.

“Can’t hear anything,” he said.

“Z, Chi, Thalo you go in first,” I (Ren) replied.

Z nodded, then opened the door.

Inside was a 50′ x 50′ room, with a large chair near the north wall, and four HOBGOBLINS, who were not pleased to see us.

Thalo leaped into action taking two blows at one of them, first with his Staff, then his Fist, but the Hobgoblin was able to avoid them.

Chi released an arrow, but the Hobgoblin blocked it with his shield.

Chi then moved out of the doorway, allowing the rest of the Party to enter the chamber.

Three of the Hobgoblins then released their longbows at Chi, all hitting him…

…and the 4th struck Thalo with his sword.

Out of nowhere Z came at two of the Hobgoblins with his Rapiers, killing the first with one, and wounding the second with the other.

Thalo then finished the wounded one with a kick to head.

Stryke then gashed one of the remaining Hobgoblins with her battle axe.

Chi drew back his bow once more, “VENTORES MARCAM,” and a blue glow appeared above the other remaining Hobgoblin, and launched an arrow into its’ forehead.

The last Hobgoblin, barely alive, crawled towards the door.

Suddenly Z was upon him, and pulled down his mask revealing the fact that he was a Blu Hob (Half Blue Orc, Half Hobgoblin).

“Now you listen to me…” Z spoke in his native Goblin tongue, “You’re going to tell us exactly what we want to know…” he spoke with a hiss.

The Hobgoblin scared out of his mind nodded in agreement.

“Here,” spoke Laris, who kneeled down by the Hobgoblin, “I need to bandage this wound, or there won’t be a Hobgoblin alive to intimidate.”

Meanwhile Chi pulled out the three arrows from his body, and Z handed him a HEALING POTION to drink, which healed some of the wounds.

As they interrogated the Hobgoblin, Thalo guarded the East Entrance, and Stryke guarded the West Entrance, where they came in.

“First of all, where’s the Warlord TORBALOY…” spoke Z…

…but the Hobgoblin did not answer.

“He’s terrified,” spoke Laris.

I looked at Z, “We don’t have time for this, tie it up, gag it, and put it behind the large chair with the 3 bodies.”

“If they find him, he’ll tell them exactly whose here,” spoke Thalo.

“Don’t speak a word about us, or we will find you,” spoke Z to the Hobgoblin in Goblin.

The Hobgoblin frantically shook his head.

“Someone’s coming,” spoke Thalo.

OUT OF GAME

“And we’ll end it there for this week,” spoke Johnny.

CHAPTER XII – Hobgoblin Lair

The next day we traveled a couple hours before we neared the outskirts of the Chimera’s Lair…

“We should wait for night,” spoke Thalo, and we all agreed.

As nightfall came, Thalo had us all stand together, he then sat crosslegged on the ground and went into a meditation.

We looked at one another, and then he spoke, “TRANSIET SINE AUTEM VESTIGIUM,” and suddenly all of us were covered by a black shadowy smoke.

“Stick together, and beware of loose rocks,” Thalo spoke, and then we all passed by the Chimera while it slept…

…Laris and Kinner knocked a few rocks loose, but it didn’t seem to wake the Chimera.

Once past Chi lead us to where he deduced the entrance of the Hobgoblin’s Lair might be…

…along a cliffs edge we came upon a fairly large cave.

“Well, here we go,” Chi spoke.

“Wait,” spoke Z, and he moved to the front.

Our Marching Order would be our Rogue Z, followed by our Ranger Chi…

…then our Bard Kinner, because as a Drow (Dark Elf) he had much experience underground and in the dark.

Then came our Monk Thalo, Me (Ren), the Wizard….

And lastly our Barbarian Stryke, and our Paladin Laris.

“That was a pretty nice trick, how long does it last?” I asked.

“It will last an hour total, so we should go undetected for a bit…” Thalo explained.

As we moved through the darkness of the cave, those who have Darkvision (Night Vision) guided those who did not…

“Up there…” spoke Z, “I see the beginnings of a stairwell.”

“Thalo’s shadowy cast will last us an hour total,” I spoke.

Soon we made our way down the first stairwell until we reached a platform.

Z brought us to a halt…

…he then started to run one of his hands along the left wall…

CLICK

…until there was a click and a secret passage opened up.

Z looke back at me.

“Secret door… Do we use it?” he spoke.

Suddenly Chi moved towards the wall and checked the ground.

“Goblin tracks… And, Hobgoblins,” he spoke.

“Perhaps a secret way for dungeon guards to surprise unwanted guests,” I spoke.

“I’ll jam a spike in it, should keep them from using it,” spoke Z.

“No… Then they’ll know someone’s here,” interjected Thalo.

Z looked at me, I nodded in agreement with Thalo, and so we move on.

Down a second set of stairs we went until we reached a 50′ by 30′ foot room lit by torches.

…All went quiet.

Z had us wait for a moment.

There were four additional hallways leading into the chamber…

…one to the left and right, in the middle of the 30′ walls…

…and two at the end, one on the far right of the wall, one on the far left.

Chi moved forward and checked for foot prints at each passage.

“Far left is covered with Goblins and Hobgoblins tracks…” he looks back at us, “Also Ogres…”

Chi makes his way back to us, “Definitely not the far right passage, there’s something in there… The far left, probably a lot of guards… Right is medium, left is probably our best bet,” explains Chi.

“Alright… Left it is,” I speak.

“I have to tell you Ren… This place is heavily populated…” adds Chi.

“Which means there’s likely Patrols,” spoke Thalo.

“Stay against the wall, and they’re not likely to see us with what I Cast,” Thalo added.

So we inched our way down the hallway to the left.

CHAPTER I – Return To Jor – CHAPTER II – Laris – CHAPTER III – Dwarfport

CHAPTER IV – Blue Hob

Dwarfport was magnificent…

Well protected by Dwarven Guard, though you still need to watch your coin purse.

My (Ren) plan was to head to the guarded city of TRO, but I may just stay here for a few days…

I’ll have to check with Chi and Kinner…

They spent most of their time in the ‘Ye Old Tankard’ tavern, and who could blame them…

…meanwhile I made my way around the City of Dwarfport.

Most Ports aren’t cities, but Dwarfport definitely is.

I keep running into Laris, or she keeps running into me/us, hard to say…

…Anyway I heard there was some sort of Arena style fighting going on, where people could fight for money, and onlookers could place bets, and I wanted to check it out.

Laris joined me.

When we arrived, there were hundreds of people surrounding a sunken, well lit, pit where entries competed.

The first two were a larger, muscular bald Human, and a black Dragonborne…

OUT OF GAME

“Go ahead and describe your Character Mike,” spoke Johnny.

“Sure… My Character is a Black Dragonborne Monk… He’s 6’4″ tall, 250lbs, and young,” spoke Mike.

“Lets continue,” spoke Johnny.

The large muscular dude really laid into the Dragonborne at first, but then its’ yellow eyes lit up, and he hit the Human with multiple blows, nearly knocking him unconscious…

…he was declared the winner…

…too bad we bet on the bald guy.

When the Dragonborne exited the pit, I approached him, “Nice fight…” I spoke.

“THALO… The name’s Thalo… Just keeping in shape,” he replied.

“Facinating method,” interjected Laris, “Which Monistary do you belong to?”

He did not answer, and walked away.

“Must have hit a nerve,” I spoke.

Next to fight was the Barbarian girl from the night before in the tavern.

She mopped the floor with the Half Elf she fought, then looked my way again…

…I have to say, she gives me the distinct feeling of being hunted.

When we returned to the tavern, Kinner was caught up in a high stakes poker game, while Chi watched.

“How’s he doing?” I asked.

“He’s holding his own, but I think it cost him 150 gold to buy in…” explained Chi.

Just then, a fight broke out at a back table…

…three Fighter dudes taking on one black masked, hooded, and cloaked guy…

…boy could he move…

…they couldn’t get a hand on him.

Pretty soon they got him and threw him out of the tavern.

Laris followed him outside…

The cloaked figure stood up, dusted himself off, and made his way down the street.

Laris continued to follow him, but then he disappeared down a alleyway.

Perhaps unwisely, she followed him down the dark alley.

Suddenly dropping from above and behind her, he reappeared baring two rapiers.

“Can I help you with something?” he asked.

“She’s with me,” I spoke appearing behind him out of thin air.

“INVISIBILITY… Impressive,” he spoke in a strange gravely kind of voice.

“Now if you don’t mind,” he spoke, then turned to leave the alley…

…”Why did those men throw you out?” questioned Laris.

The man froze, turned around, and pulled down his mask…

…what we saw was completely foreign to me…

…he looked to be part Hobgoblin, part Orc…

But his skin was blue?

“Because I look like this…” he spoke.

“A Blu Hob,” Laris replied.

I looked at her in amazement, what in the world is a Blu Hob..

“That’s right… You two are pretty sharp, I’ll give you that,” he replied, then turned to go once more.

“I will not tolerate this!” Laris spoke then wooshed by the Blu Hob towards the tavern.

He and I followed her there.

After quite a tussle, Laris laid the three of them out…

The Barbarian girl was watching as well, and seemed impressed.

“Is she always like this?” questioned the Blu Hob.

…”Yup,” I replied.
