Episode VI – Beyond The Glasses

“Good morning,” I woke to the warm words of the older man as he knelt down and handed me a cup of coffee.

And for just one moment, I forgot that the world around us was ash and wreckage.

But for only that one moment, as the black rain was starting to fall once more as they packed up their camp.

One of the ladies, the friendlier one, was combing her son’s hair…

While the other watched me with suspicious eyes as she packed, sawed off shotgun never to far from her.

I smiled slightly at her, to no avail…

…if anything, it made her more suspicious.

“Good morning,” spoke the gentle voice of the little girl, who had somehow snuck up behind me.

Though she was 9 or 10, she was holding a ragged looking stuffed pink bear tightly.

The innocence in her eyes…

“Well hello there,” I spoke, as I stood, and rolled up the blankets they had afforded me.

“What’s their name?” I questioned about the bear, as I pinched one of its’ ears.

“Seymour…” she replied, as she gazed at me softly.

I knelt down next to her, “What about yours?”

“JENNY! Leave the nice man alone,” her mother called, dropping the comb she was using on her son in anxiety.

“Go on,” I spoke, and she walked away, grasping tightly onto her bear, and peering back at me with a bright smile.

Somehow this group had survived just fine on their own… And I would leave it that way, I moved on alone.

Episode 5 – Mortality

It was obvious I wasn’t going to make it all the way to Metropolis alive at this rate…

If those A.I. Robots had wished, they could have simply snapped my neck.

“Think Clark… You’re Not Giving Yourself Enough Credit… You Knew That They Were Military Issue… They Weren’t Likely To Do That”

But A.I. Change, grow, adapt to their surroundings.

And though I tried to make myself feel less foolish, it wasn’t working.

The fact was, I needed to find others to travel with.

But who.

The morning was cold, and as I looked to the sky, I could almost swear the sun beyond wanted to break through the darkness…

…but I was always the optimist.

Perhaps my greatest weakness… But also a strength.

As I entered into some charred hills, the idea of actually finding others to travel to Metropolis with faded from my hopeful mind.

No, I just needed to be more careful than last night.

And then I saw them…

…two girls in their 30’s, an older man and two children… Maybe 9 or 10 years old.

I stopped, “Hello there,” I spoke naively.

With this one of the woman rose what looked like a cutoff shot gun, and aimed it right at me.

“DON’T COME ANY CLOSER!” she spat.

The second girl than grabbed the barrel of the gun, “Laris… It’s alright.”

An optimist… Like me.

“You really shouldn’t sneak up on people like that,” the second girl spoke.

“I’m sorry… I guess I was just surprised to come across anyone,” I spoke, we were standing maybe 50 feet away.

“What’s your name fellow?” spoke the elder man, who had rose from his lawn chair, and stepped in front of the woman…

…meanwhile the two children hesitantly continued to play with some toy trucks…

One a girl, one a boy, the girl kept glancing my way with sad eyes.

“Clark…” I replied.

The man approached me, a sort of warmth in his eyes.

But for the most part, a defeated looking fellow.

“Well Clark,” he spoke as he stuck out his hand, “Why don’t you settle in here with us for the night.”

He was a fool like me…

But this fact would not cost him this night…

“Thank you,” I replied, and made my way to the others.

Episode 4 – Machines

When I woke, the old man had gone…

…”Hmm…”

I gather my things, and moved on.

The weather was definitely strange…

Midday brought a warm, black rain.

My instincts told me it wasn’t nuclear…

…but strange none the less.

A few hours later, I came across some blackened trees, and some sort of  half melted factory…

Before I knew, I saw two… No, three Robots.

Military I think…

High end A.I…

…chances were that they weren’t under man’s control…

…but instead, their own.

Man of Steel I wasn’t…

…not anymore.

I took cover behind a large burned tree, and waited.

Darker and darker the night fell…

…what were they doing in there.

I decided to take a look… foolish.

I found a back window and peeked inside…

…they were building some sort of… land transport.

Something more than a tank.

Suddenly, a blue light eye caught view of me, and I ran…

Ran so hard… Ran as hard and fast as my now mortal legs could carry me.

“Don’t Look Back… Don’t Look Back”

I told myself.

But it didn’t matter…

Before I knew it, they were upon me…

…grounding my jaw into the ash, dirt, rock ground.

I tried my hardest to escape… to no avail.

“HUMAN… USELESS…” one of them spoke, then released me.

I sat up, my face hurting, and watched their shadowy images disappear back to where they had come from.

I grinded my teeth, and gave them a stare…

“Heat Vision no more…”

Episode 1

Episode II – Earth

As I made my way through the charred countryside that lay between my small town, and Metropolis…

I thought of Lois.

When we at last got together, I pretended not to notice for the longest time, that it was him that she missed…

Him that she had truly wanted.

Superman.

After three years of pretending Clark was ever enough, she left.

Using what was happening to our world as an excuse to get away.

I can’t imagine as a Journalist she was ever very far from the action…

…the, decimation.

I can’t imagine that it’s remotely possible… That she lived.

Episode 1 – The Hope

We’d been underground for 10 years…

The hope was when we lifted the lid of the Underground Nuclear Protective Chamber, the air would be breathable enough for us to live.

“Well… Here goes nothing,” spoke Dr. Harnett, as he pulled the release, causing the chamber door to decompress, and open.

What we saw outside as we entered the dark skied remains of a beaten planet, was as bad as all of our worse nightmares had imagined.

Barely standing town structures, ash stains where humans had stood when our government had tried Nuclear Attacks upon our planet’s enemies…

General Zod and his disciples.

But none of this mattered now…

Though I knew it was likely pointless… A long journey for not.

I had to find my way back to Metropolis.

“Are you sure you want to do this Clark?” spoke the small group of people I had hidden within the chamber with for the last 10 years.

“Yes.” I replied, packed as much supplies as I could, and began my trek.

CHAPTER ONE

“In One Mind…”

“Out Another”

CHAPTER TWO – Engage

Chicago – 2138

A blackened building…

One and a half dozen men in black, gas masked, and bearing Z600 Canons enter the mutant filled building…

Lights at the top of their guns, it looks like some sort of white fairy dance from Kore’s floor…

…as he sits on a crate eating a can of beans.

“Corporate @#@#$!”

BLAM! BLAM! BLAM!

They enter the building clearing the hallways of mutants with rapid fire…

It’s like a lightning storm on level one…

Twelve more floors to go…

Scout leads his pack… But in his helmet he receives a telecomute-o-gram from Joseph.

“How’s it going in there Scout…” speaks Joseph.

“All is well laddy…”

BLAM! BLAM! BLAM!

…speaks Scout as he and his men lay waste to the unsuspecting mutants.

Meanwhile upstairs, Kore looks at the huge stack of canned beans.

“Dam it…”

He then opens his door, and there is a mutant standing there…

OOMFARGH! screams the mutant as Kore throws a fist in its chest, his fist lighting up in a white glow as it strikes, blowing the mutant back up against the wall…

Meanwhile Scout and his Mercenary crew have reached the third level, heading up the stair well.

“This is easy!” speaks one of the mercenaries…

Scout on the other hand seems a bit hesitant suddenly.

“Too easy.” he thinks to himself.

With this Scout lets the others make their way up, and out into the third level hallway…

“Whose that!” one of the mercenaries suddenly says, as Kore is standing at the end of the hallway, his motorcycle helmet now on, causing the 1, 2 and 3 on his helmet to light up in blue light, then fading.

Surprisingly there don’t appear to be any mutants on this level, but there is a scent like that of a hot oven.

Scout steps through the lot, and sees the man.

“You’d best clear out of here buddy, this building belongs to Joseph Ridlen now, Chicago City Official…” speaks Scout, but Kore does not reply…

Scout pauses for a moment waiting for a response… “Eh… Waste em.”

Just as the men begin to raise their cannons, Kore raises his arms, his fists now aimed at the mercenaries…

“Send my regards to our City Official” he thinks to himself before…

SHAMMM!!! a white light blares out of his hands, incinerating them…

“AHHHHHH!!”

…and all is silent.

A moment later Kore is downstairs, knocking down a mutant here in there, with the same glowing punchs to their chests, mounts his YT7000 Hover Bike…

VOOOOOMMMM

…and takes off.

THE MIND CHRONICLES – SEASON 2 – VOLUME SIX

Population Decrease

N ONE POLICE STATE (NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK) – FEBRUARY, THE YEAR 2076

OVER THE GLOBAL RADIO FREQUENCIES

THIS JUST IN

“THE POLICE STATE OF N ONE HAS BEEN STRUCK DOWN, AND OVERWHELMED WITH SOME 80,000 MUTANTS”

“SOME 15,000 OCCUPANTS SCATTERED, AND SLAIN IN THEIR HOMES”

“THIS BRINGS ARE KNOWN POPULATION DOWN FROM APPROXIMATELY 200K, TO ROUGHLY 185K”

“A 7.5% DECREASE IN TOTAL UNMUTATED HUMAN POPULATION”

“WHY WEREN’T THE INHABITANTS NOTIFIED EARLIER? ONLY TIME WILL TELL”

“AMONGST THE MANY SLAIN, WAS HIGH SENATOR RICHARDS… OUR FREE WORLD’S PRIMARY LEADER, AND VOICE OF HOPE”

“AS CAPTAIN RAF MULIAN DOES HIS BEST TO GATHER WHAT IS LEFT OF THE N ONE MARINE FORCES, AND MOVE SOUTH TO THE V ONE (VIRGINIA) OUTPOST, ONE CAN ONLY ASK ONE THING…”

“WHERE IS “THE MIND””

NORTHWEST TERRITORIES, CANADA

The Mind and his Crew arrive in a small outpost, and approach the Entry Gates.

A beaten up soldier approaches the vehicle, and The Mind Pops out of the top.

“Afternoon Sir… May we enter your Outpost, we just need a day or so’s rest, we won’t trouble you none” says The Mind.

“Alright… Move in” the soldier waves em on as the Gate Opens.

The Mind parks the Vehicle, and all get out and go their own way within the meager Outpost.

Save Farahi and Jarod who go to get some food and a resting spot together.

Meanwhile The Mind, who barely ever sleeps, meanders his way over to the “Saloon” Area so to speak… To see what kind of “Half Grade” Alcoholic Muck he can get his mitts on.

As he approaches the make shift bar, he holds two fingers up to the Bartender.

“Two of Your Worst Kind Sir…” The Mind states.

He then takes one of the drinks and holds it up to the Bartender “Salud”, then turns and faces the rather scarce and glum looking group.

As he downs his two drinks very quickly, his mind starts to relax its otherwise many filters, and thus he starts to pick up on some bits and pieces of thoughts from the surrounding folk.

“We’re Doomed… We’re Doomed I say” says one.

“We Might as well Bury Ourselves in the Sand and Wait for it to all end now” says another.

The Mind doesn’t really give it much “Mind”, so to speak, as he’s been exposed towards much reoccurring, and frequent despair and misery since he first arrived in “This Time”.

One might say it’s kind of “The Theme” of the Land and World at hand.

But then he heard something, that did not sit well…

“Poor High Senator Richard’s… He was a Fool, but he was “Our Fool”” an Old Lady Muttered in her mind as she walked by The Mind”

Without Thinking, The Mind suddenly grabbed her collar with both hands, his eyes crazed and wide.

“WHAT!!! WHAT DO YOU MEAN??!!” he frantically yelled in her face.

With this The Bartender was up over the Bar, and pinned The Mind on the Ground.

“I Don’t Know Who You Are Buddy! But At Outpost 124, We Respect The Elderly!” he snapped at him.

“OFF HIM! NOW!!” suddenly Nick and Sprig had appeared, and fully armed the stand at the entrance of the “Saloon”.

With this the Bartender stands, and puts his hands behind his head.

“Your Friend Started it Friends… He done jump this poor old Lady”.

The Mind then jumped to his feet “Is it True??!! Is High Senator Richards Really Dead??!!” The Mind asked frantically.

“Haven’t you heard the Reports Buddy… N One is Gone… Toast… Some 15,000 Non-Mutants slayed by an 80,000 Mutant Onslaught… They never saw it coming” The Bartender explains.

With this The Mind motions for Nick and Sprig to lower their weapons.

The Mind then steps up to the Bar “In that case…” and turns to face the room “DRINKS FOR EVERYONE!! WE MAY NOT HAVE MUCH TIME LEFT!!” he announces, as he tosses some credits on the bar, and the Bartender hops over the Bar, and starts pouring drinks for everyone.
