I am convinced

I am convinced
That if all mankind
Could only gather together
In one circle
Arms on each other’s shoulders
And dance, laugh and cry
together
Then much
of the tension and burden
of life
Would fall away
In the knowledge that
We are all children

Needing and wanting
Each other’s
Comfort and
Understanding
We are all children
Searching for love

by LEONARD NIMOY

for-the-love-of-spock-trailer

I watched the Documentary, “For The Love Of Spock” on NETFLIX tonight

Something I have looked forward since I heard his son was going to make it

In fact I followed him on Twitter and Facebook so I could keep up with the Updated in regards to the Production

But after seeing it, though it is good, and full of tons of Clips, History and Interviews

What I got from Leonard Nimoy wasn’t really present in the Production

There were periods where Leonard and his son weren’t all that close, and though this process I know was healing for him, and though they were close towards the end of his life, it’s just not the same as truly admiring someone for 40 years, which I have

spock

Beginning with SPOCK

I truly and always loved the Spock Character

He was my favorite, and the main reason that I followed both the Original show when it was ReSyndicated in the 70’s, and the Films

That kind of Depth of Character is Extremely Rare

Leonard Truly Shined Through

THE DIRECTOR

I then came to admire him as a Director

Particularly because I planned on being a Director myself

PHILOSOPHER & POET

But more than anything I admired his Philosophical Nature, and Poetic Soul

During the last year or so of his life I actually followed him on Twitter

He was a warm, giving soul

I suppose I don’t have much more to say… Only that he was one of my Favorite Human Beings of all time

Right there with David Bowie and Robin Williams

All three of which we lost in the last couple years

I’m looking at books on Amazon right now, and though I do want to read Leonard Nimoy’s “I Am Spock” Book…

I am tempted to get William Shatner’s “Leonard” book… Just so I can hear about Leonard from someone who knew him for 50 years

Because Leonard is very humble, and even he may not have truly appreciated himself as much as some of us out there

Thanks for Reading

Star-Trek-Motion-PictureAs Promised, Star Trek The Motion Picture… In Review (In Honor Of Leonard Nimoy & Spock)

On February 27 I Posted that in Honor of Leonard Nimoy, I would would Watch and Review all 6 of the Original

Star Trek Films

In all honesty, I began with the First Film, knowing that when I saw it when I was young,

I was seriously disappointed, and frankly, bored by it

That statement might not sound all too friendly, but I was 10 to 11 years old

“Star Wars” had come out two years before (Which may not have helped)

And I don’t know, it’s just the way I felt

Since then, I can not recall if I’ve actually sat through the whole thing, and in all honesty

It has been hard doing so, Lol

I know I sound both mean and critical right now, but in all honesty, I’m not, Lol

Here’s my review

(That preview pretty much captures what I mean, Lol)

Story;

The story is horrible, and terribly executed. (I know I sound like a jerk right now, but I’m really not, I’m just honest, Lol)

IMDB DISCRIPTION

When an alien spacecraft of enormous power is spotted approaching Earth, Admiral Kirk resumes command of the Starship Enterprise in order to intercept, examine and hopefully stop the intruder.

Sounds typical, but, read on

star trek motion picture 8Directing;

Lets just start with the Directing, which certainly played its’ role in this very not good film.

When I first sat down to rewatch this film, I got through about a third of it, and needed to take a break. First of all, there are an immense amount of drawn out scenes, that make the film drag terribly. And the acting, wow, really not good. As I started watching it again today, I found myself thinking that what this film is, is a 60’s Sci-Fi, simply shot in the 70’s… But after looking up the films that this Director has Directed, these three stood out… “The Sound Of Music”, “West Side Story”, and “The Day The Earth Stood Still”…

After texting my brother that perhaps the film would have been better, if there had been more singing, Lol… I continued watching. (I actually love “The Sound Of Music”)

When I estimated that it was like a 60’s Sci-Fi Film, I may have missed the mark… It’s probably more like a 50’s Sci-Fi Film, which makes more since… I can’t really remember “The Day The Earth Stood Still”, though I may have actually liked it, as it is a classic I believe… The stretcccched scenes, combined with the extreme silence in this film (Like 2001, but I think less deliberate), made it extremely painful to watch.

Even as I continued watching it today, I literally fell asleep… I was tired a bit, but I just couldn’t keep my focus on it, it was painfully slow and dry. This film literally succeeded in capturing ‘zero’ % of the spirit from the original shows… Which were largely Character Driven… So many great characters in this film just standing around, being serious, and wearing tan clothing, Lol

I know this first review of six doesn’t seem much like a tribute to Leonard Nimoy, but I do believe that honesty and integrity are important to him, and thus I am just trying to be honest.

I know that I am not the first or only that felt this way about this film, in fact I do believe that the fan response was probably what helped to inspire the franchise to do such a good job with “Wrath Of Khan”… But we’ll get to that film next, after I watch it again as well.

Characters;

Like I say, watching all these great characters that you’ve come to love from the original series, just stand around and be morose with one another, was sincerely painful.

My Review;

I have to sadly give this film a 3 out of 10… A film that I wouldn’t normally review, but in honor of Leonard, I will review them all.

I hope that this review doesn’t appear harsh, or disrespectul, I assure you, I’m just trying to be completely honest… On to “Wrath Of Khan”.

DarkJade Presents – My Sci-Fi Path

DarkJade Presents – My Sci-Fi Path

As I’ve said many times before, The Original “Star Wars”, and “The Empire Strikes Back” were the two Films that Inspired me to Pursue Film Making…

But I thought it was time I Truly Shared My Path Through the Sci-Fi Genre, which basically started in the 70’s for me when I was very young.

Space 1999 (1975-1977)

Now I don’t remember when I started watching “Space 1999”, it probably wasn’t as early as 1975… But sometime when I was very young, I did watch it… And it was Cool, Lol

Wow, that was kind of painful, Lol… The 70’s man, Lol

Star Wars (1977)

Then came the Original “Star Wars”, and that was it, I was ‘hooked’ on Sci-Fi.

I was Han Solo, My Brother was Luke, and My Favorite All Time Villain Became Darth Vader.

Star Trek (1966-1969)

And of course “Star Trek” Reruns were on T.V. frequently, which were just Awesome… Spock was, and is, my favorite Star Trek Character.

The Ultimate in Sci-Fi Melodrama, Lol… With a sprinkle of Shakespearean Undertones for Good Measure, Lol

Buck Rogers In The 25th Century (1979)

I hardly remember the Buck Rodgers Television Show, but I know My Brother and I used to Watch it, Lol

Wow… Wow… The 70’s… Wow, Lol

Planet Of The Apes (1968)

Somewhere in there the “Planet of the Apes” Movies were on T.V. on some of the Channels as well…

“TAKE YOUR STINKING PAWS OF ME YOU DAMN DIRTY APE!” Lol

Battlestar Galactica (1978-1979)

We Loved this Show, Lol

Alien (1979)

Yes, are Mom actually took us to this Flick, Lol… Which is a Brilliant Film, but basically Scared the Hell out of My Brother and I, Lol

She regrets taking us, Ha

But in the end, I think we survived it ok, Lol

Uh, Yeah… It was pretty scary for a couple of young kids, Lol

Flash Gordon (1980)

We Loved This Flick, as Cheesy as it was, Lol… In fact I not only met Timothy Dalton years later, but My Current Cat is also Named “Baron”, after the Timothy Dalton Character, Lol Not to mention “Queen”, and more specifically “Freddy Mercury” was my Favorite All Time Singer…

Spaceships, Hawkmen, Queens Music… Yeah, this was my kind of Flick, Lol

The Empire Strikes Back (1980)

And of course, One of My All Time Favorite Films, “The Empire Strikes Back”… Han was My Man, and this Film was definitely His Film.

In My Opinion, the Best Sci-Fi Film Ever… No “Star Wars”… No “The Empire Strikes Back”…  No “Star Wars”… And so it Goes, Lol

But I will Say The First Two Star Wars Films are one of My Main Motivations Behind My Focus of “Characters”, “Story”, and “Character & Story” Development. And the Importance of a Great Villain.

Blade Runner (1982)

“Blade Runner”… Also one of the Most Brilliant Sci-Fi Films Ever Done… Just a Masterpiece… And also very Influential on My Screenplay Writing, for Sure.

“I’ve seen things you people wouldn’t believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I’ve watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die.”

One of the Best Sci-Fi Lines, and Scenes Ever… Wridley Scott is a Film Genius Basically… And of course the Writer Philip K. Dick, whose “Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep?” Book it was based on.

TRON (1982)

“TRON”, a Film Way ahead of its time… My Brother and I Loved This Film.

At a Time when We Lived in Video Game Arcades, it was like Being in One of them…

And the List goes on and on… But those were the one’s that got My Bro and I Off the Ground so to speak, in regards to Sci-Fi.

Thanks For Listening/Watching/Reading
